Flick My Clip 6! – Aug 2013

I am incredibly proud to announce that we will once again team up with the FilmDayton Festival (8/23 – 8/25) to bring Flick My Clip to the big screen at the Neon Movies again!  I can’t tell you how awesome it was to see a jam-packed crowd watching our ridiculousness on the big screen.  Thanks to Megan Cooper for reaching out and wanting to support the short comedic art of filmmaking for a second year in a row.

It is really hard for me to believe that this will be the sixth installment of the festival.  Time really flies when you’re having fun making comedy.  The first five manifestations are proof to me that this just keeps getting better and better each year.  Greg Nichols has been integral in helping me with the technical side of putting this together since the outset and whether he knows it or not, I will be relying on him heavily again this year as my feet on the ground in Dayton, Ohio, as I’m living in Los Angeles.

So, what does this mean?  It means it is time to get off your asses and make some comedy videos that under five minutes long and submit them to me!  PLEASE follow the submission instruction here or your entry may not be considered (keep in mind the submission totals will be higher this year and it remains FREE and I only have so much free time for my eyes and ears):

1.  Original work created by you

2.  Under 5 minutes in length

3.  The aim is comedy

4.  Submit via DROPBOX to: ryanjsinger@hotmail.com (it is a free service, so please use it to submit or email the download link to your short to the same address)

5.  Mail submission on DVD as a DATA file – NOT AS A PLAYABLE DVD – as a high quality .MP4 or .MOV file ONLY.  This will be filmed in a movie theater, so keep in mind your sound quality will be crucial and your aspect ration should be 4:3 when exporting file or creating project.  Address:

Ryan Singer
1133 Justin Ave.
Apt. 115
Glendale, CA 91201

6. I only ask that you avoid nudity, but that is the only strong suggestion for your content. Funny comes first, all else is second.

Thanks for your interest in the little comedy shorts festival that is truly a labor of love for me. I really am excited about meeting some new and hilarious creators for this year’s manifestation.

Submission Deadline CLOSED!

Thank you to all the talented folks who have submitted for this year’s Flick My Clip!  We have some great entries that I am pouring over and I have almost completed the task of watching and re-watching many of the submissions.  I can promise you that I watch every single of them at least a few times to make sure I am not missing some hidden gem of a magical comedy moment.

I think for many reasons that this year’s event is going to be the biggest and best.  There is also some talks about it going mobile.  I can keep you posted on that as more information becomes available to me.

Just a quick reminder that I am not making any money off of the filmmakers who have volunteered their hard work for inclusion in the festival.  I am doing this because I truly enjoy it and someday when it becomes bigger than I can handle, I will revisit the idea of how it is run.  But, in the meantime, I am just having a lot of fun putting together a feature length film of comedy shorts.

Thanks again to the great folks over at FilmDayton Festival, Megan Cooper and Lisa Grigsby for being intrical in making this happen.  The lineup will be announced very soon and I am excited to present this on the big screen.  I promise that it will be just as weird, funny, awesome, and diverse as they all have been.

Flick My Clip 5 – Submit or Dive!

Can you believe our little comedy shorts festival is going to the big screen? Well, we are! I am pleased to announce we are joining forces with the FilmDayton Festival this year, August 24th at the Neon Movies in downtown Dayton. We are going to be on the big screen and it will be the best incarnation yet. I am really thrilled that we have teamed up with them and this is getting bigger than I ever really imagined and that is great stuff. We will screen on Friday night and I’ll have more details as we get closer.

Do you want to have one of your shorts showcased? Here’s the submission details:

Funny. Any video that is funny. Under 5 minutes. Under 5 minutes and funny. All submissions must be received by July 23rd, 2012. FREE. I must have the physical copy or digital copy of your short by 7/23 and NO LATER. The process of screening and compiling these shorts is time consuming, so I need at least 2 1/2 weeks to be in front of it all. RECAP: Under 5 minutes, FUNNY, in my hands by 7/23/12. The higher quality the better, but remember that if something is funny, that trumps all else. ALL else.

Those are the only rules. The time limit is so we can showcase as many videos by as many filmmakers as we can in the 90 minute time frame. 90 minutes is the best length of time for a comedy and much consideration goes into building this 90 minute collective of shorts to build and provide a unique and hilarious viewing experience.

I will accept yousendit.com, dropbox, and other file transfer services at the email: ryanjsinger@hotmail.com

Or you can mail submissions on Data DVD to:

Flick My Clip started as an attempt to unite the creative forces and minds of stand up comedians and filmmakers in the Southern Ohio area. It seemed like a natural fit and has proven to be just that so far. The number of creative forces and minds in this area is immense and this comedy shorts festival is a great way for these forces to unite and collide. The local talent is the focus and the outside contributors are a unique way to get introduced to the creative minds working hard outside the local frame of comedic reference.

I am genuinely excited and looking forward to watching each and every submission for this year’s festival. So, thanks in advance for sharing your creativity, hard work, and willingness to be a potential participant. – Ryan Singer
